Cadets in the Naval Sea Cadet Corps and the Navy League Cadet Corps step into leadership roles early—planning drills, mentoring peers, and gaining confidence to guide others in any environment, all of which are key components of effective youth leadership programs.

From aviation and SCUBA to robotics and medical skills, Sea Cadets of the Naval Sea Cadet Corps engage in hands-on training that equips them for real-world challenges, all while participating in youth leadership programs offered by the Navy League Cadet Corps.

In a disciplined, team-based setting within the Naval Sea Cadet Corps and Navy League Cadet Corps, cadets cultivate character, resilience, and values that last a lifetime, emphasizing the importance of youth leadership programs.

Grades: 5th – 8th (must be at least 10 years old to join)
Our “League Cadets” are middle school-aged students who participate in our introductory program with the Naval Sea Cadet Corps. As part of the Navy League Cadet Corps, League Cadets wear uniforms, train in a disciplined environment, and advance through ranks that mirror those of the Navy and Merchant Marines. These participants may engage in a variety of training opportunities that introduce them to the maritime services and several career fields, all while fostering critical youth leadership programs. Additionally, there is an optional week-long “Navy League Orientation” available to these young men and women.

Grades: 9th-12th (must be at least 13 years old to join)
Sea Cadets are high school aged students who participate in the Naval Sea Cadet Corps’ advanced program. There is no requirement to have been a member of the Navy League Cadet Corps prior to joining Sea Cadets. Participants wear uniforms, learn about the maritime services and explore a wide variety of career fields, while advancing through ranks that reflect the structure of the U.S. Navy and U.S. Coast Guard. To enable rising high school freshmen to take part in summer training, eighth graders may join the NSCC after March 1 of their eighth-grade year. This timing allows cadets to complete Recruit Orientation and attend a Recruit Training (RT) during their first summer as a Sea Cadet, effectively enhancing their experience in youth leadership programs.

Sea Cadets offers hands-on Advanced Trainings across the country where teens explore real careers – like aviation, medicine, engineering, space, seamanship, and more. Led by military and industry pros, these immersive programs build leadership, confidence, and life-changing experiences that go far beyond the classroom.
Advanced Training May Include:

We meet the first weekend of each month both Saturday and Sunday typically from 8am to 3pm (Subject to Drill Date). Please look at the POD for drill times. Additionally we also have community service opportunities outside of drill and Summer/Winter trainings.
Our drill site is located at NBVC Point Mugu, 10A Naval Air Rd BLDG 166, Port Hueneme, CA 93041 Google Maps Link. However we do have drills offsite occasionally. Make sure to check the POD sent via email for the drill location.
Your local Sea Cadets unit meets throughout the year, typically one or two days each month, and sometimes overnight. The drill schedule varies between units. Drills include team-building activities, physical training, close-order military drill, and practical handson instruction. Unit drills may also involve special off-site activities like tours of military bases or naval ships. Sea Cadets trainings occur only twice a year—during summer and winter school breaks. Trainings are 1-2 weeks long and take place throughout the country. They offer specialized disciplines such as field operations, aviation, medical, seamanship, robotics, and SCUBA
While we recognize that children may engage in various extracurricular activities, active Sea Cadets are required to attend and participate in unit drills. Units must provide 120 hours of drill annually, and cadets cannot miss more than 30 hours of drill in a calendar year.
High-school aged cadets are required to attend at least one training session per calendar year. Middle-school aged cadets can choose to attend trainings. Trainings are the most exciting and rewarding part of Sea Cadets. They allow cadets to develop as individuals and explore a variety of new opportunities that will prepare them for their futures.
We focus on each applicant's potential, not just their current situation. Applicants must demonstrate that they have the potential to pass our Physical Readiness Test (PRT). While passing the test is not required for enrollment, applicants must be willing to pass it within 3 months of enrollment and at least once every 6 months.
The Sea Cadets Physical Readiness Test (PRT) consists of three activities performed in order:
• Plank • Push-ups • 1-Mile Run
No cadet will be eligible to participate in Navy League Orientation, Sea Cadets Recruit Training or Advanced Training unless he/she has taken and passed the PRT within the preceding six months.
In the Sea Cadets, ranks mirror the ranks in the U.S. Navy. Cadets rank up by completing specific online training modules, demonstrating proficiency in physical fitness skills, leadership qualities, and passing required exams for each rank. Time in service, participation in our youth program’s activities, and recommendations from superiors also play a crucial role in the promotion process.
Our volunteers come from various careers and backgrounds. What they share is their willingness to dedicate their time and efforts to the nation's youth. Because safety is our top priority, our volunteers undergo regular background checks, and cadets always remain under adult supervision during Sea Cadet activities.
Parents play a crucial role in fostering their cadet's growth and supporting all members of the unit. You can support your cadet by encouraging them to communicate with their unit, handle their drill details, and take responsibility for their uniform. Your participation in unit volunteer opportunities can serve as a positive example and help your cadet prioritize Sea Cadets in their busy schedule.
